Poy

Posted on September 26, 2025 by Joke Poo

So a guy claims he can make any dish in the world so he says to his cheffing community, have a look at my cook book fellas; you'll find every dish known to man in here.

They each have a gaze and one says, "now hang on a minute, I don't see poy in here"

"What ya mean, what's poy?"

He replied, "they handcraft the ingredients and make it from complete scratch on the foothills of the himalayas. Its a very special dish that they keep an absolute secret"

Furiously, the cookbook conesoiur traveled the long distance traversing the foothils and he stumbles across the monetary where the monks make their famous dish.

"I wish to learn the secret of poy, this is my cookbook with every dish please teach me"

OK replied the Abbott. First you must pass our tests.

You shall trek the mountain and take the boulders from the middle of the mountain, reduce them to pebbles.

And so he did, fed on nothing but bread and water he strenuously reduced all the boulders to thousands of pebbles.

Just as he finished, the monk said, now you must take the pebbles to the top of the mountain and make a statue of Buddha.

The cook is exhausted, after the monk left the small bowl of water and bread he was determined. He stomped back and forth for weeks, arduously and dripping with sweat.

The monk came back to find he had completed the tasks. Delighted since no one else has, he told this to the chef who was also delighted he can return after 2 months of suffering. He can now make poy

The monk takes him to the monastery, the chef, emaciated, drags himself through the refectory floor, beard as long as his body, crawls up to the serving hatch, lurches over

And an Irish voice appears and says

"now what would it be, steak and kidney poy, or chicken n mushroom poy"

Okay, here’s a joke based on the original, changed but with a similar structure and a twist:

Joke: Data Stew

So a programmer boasts he’s built a database with every data structure known to computer science, showing his code repository to his peers: “Look, every structure is here; just search.”

They browse it, and one says, “Hold on, I don’t see Data Stew in here.”

“Data Stew? What’s that?”

“They craft it, byte by byte, using arcane algorithms deep within the kernel. It’s a highly optimized, proprietary structure they keep top secret.”

Driven, the programmer travels to the core of the operating system, navigating through labyrinthine directories until he finds the legendary coders.

“I want to learn the secret of Data Stew! Here’s my repo with every structure; teach me!”

The Lead Coder replies, “Okay, you must pass our tests.”

“First, you must debug this legacy code without using a debugger; only printf statements.”

So, he toils, fuelled only by caffeine and ramen, poring over thousands of lines of obfuscated C, adding printf statements everywhere.

Just as he finishes, the Lead Coder says, “Now, you must refactor it into a modern framework using only vim.”

The programmer, utterly exhausted, after the ramen and caffeine he was determined. He hacks away for weeks, sweating and muttering about semicolons.

The Lead Coder returns to find he’s completed the tasks. Impressed, he tells this to the programmer, who is thrilled to return to his world, now that he knows Data Stew

The Lead Coder takes him to a server room, the programmer crawls over to the stack of servers, beard as long as his body, leans against the rack, lurches over

And a Pythonista voice appears and says,

“So, what’ll it be? Dictionary Stew, or List Stew today?”

Alright, let’s dissect this joke.

Core Elements:

  • The Setup: A boastful chef claims to have every dish in his cookbook. This is a common arrogance trope, ripe for comedic deflation.
  • The Obscure Dish: “Poy” is the key ingredient. It represents something impossibly exotic and unknown. This sets up the long journey and quest for knowledge.
  • The Quest: The chef’s arduous journey to learn the secret of Poy, filled with impossible tasks. This is classic dedication meets absurdism.
  • The Twist: The punchline flips the entire setup. Instead of a sacred, Himalayan secret, “poy” is revealed to be a common pie filling, delivered with an Irish accent. This is the unexpected deflation of the grand quest.
  • Contrast: The humor comes from the immense contrast between the perceived exoticism and the mundane reality.

Key Comedic Devices:

  • Exaggeration: The chef’s boast, the arduous tasks, the description of his suffering.
  • Irony: The search for the holy grail of cuisine ends in a pie shop.
  • Juxtaposition: Himalayan monks vs. an Irish pie maker.

Let’s Enrich the Comedy with Some Factual Tidbits:

Here’s where we can add some new humor. Let’s focus on the “Poy” pie, the journey and the Irish pie maker.

New Joke Idea – A “Did You Know” About Extreme Pie Baking:

“Did you know that in the quest for the perfect steak and kidney pie, some chefs are going to extreme lengths? One recent report claims a chef trekked across the Himalayas to learn the secrets of ‘Poy’, a mystical pie filling. Apparently, it involves reducing Himalayan boulders to pebbles. Now, I’m not saying it’s ridiculous, but my grandma uses Oxo cubes, and her pies win county fairs.”

Explanation of Changes:

  • Based on: The “Poy” quest and the ridiculous tasks.
  • Added Factual Connection: I’ve referenced the fact that there are local county fairs.
  • Humor Source: Juxtaposition of the “epic quest” with a very common pie-making shortcuts. This reinforces the ironic contrast.

This keeps the spirit of the original joke and adds another layer of absurdity.
