In WW2 a General had an idea on how to cheer the troops up

Posted on November 3, 2025 by Joke Poo

After D-Day, a general wanted to commemorate the victory to keep momentum of the troops. He chose an imposing statue of a soldier made entirely from melted bullet casings collected from the beaches of Normandy.

He assembled a team of the most renowned metalworkers in all of France, master sculptors who had crafted monuments across Europe.

But there was a problem. The general's vision required thousands of casings, and despite mobilizing entire supply units to comb the battlefields, they came up devastatingly short. Weeks of searching yielded barely a fraction of what they needed.

The sculptors examined the meager pile of brass and didn't know what to do. "This is nowhere near enough for a full statue."

The general demanded: "you start anyway. Make do with what you have"

The metalworkers worked around the clock. By the unveiling ceremony, they'd only managed to complete a part of it.

But that turned out to be exactly what they needed to win the war.

They forged a head

Okay, here’s my attempt at a “Joke Poo” version of the WW2 General joke, titled “Head Start”:

Joke Poo: Head Start

A tech CEO, fresh off the heels of a mildly successful AI launch, wanted to commemorate his company’s “innovation” and boost employee morale. He decided to commission a life-sized statue of a neural network, rendered entirely in discarded smartphone components collected from across Silicon Valley.

He hired a team of cutting-edge 3D printing artists, known for their viral tech-art installations.

But there was a problem. The CEO’s vision required millions of phone bits, and despite launching a company-wide “e-waste challenge” and partnering with local recycling centers, they came up significantly short. Weeks of searching yielded barely enough to fill a few bins.

The artists examined the pathetically small pile of screens and circuit boards. “This is nowhere near enough for a full neural network,” one sighed.

The CEO, ever the optimist, insisted, “You start anyway! Agile development! Pivot if necessary!”

The artists worked day and night, cobbling together what they could. By the unveiling ceremony, they’d only managed to complete a tiny fraction of the statue.

But that turned out to be exactly what they needed to land another round of funding.

They forged a head.

Okay, let’s dissect this joke and then forge something new!

Joke Analysis:

  • Core Idea: A WW2 General tries to boost morale with a statue made of bullet casings.
  • Twist: The project fails due to lack of materials, but the partial result unexpectedly wins the war.
  • Punchline: “They forged a head.” – This relies on the double meaning of “head” (as in the head of a statue, and also the idea of a sexual favour). It’s a pun, relying on surprise and potentially a bit of vulgarity.
  • Humor Type: The humor is a combination of situational irony (grand plan gone wrong), understatement (partial statue “wins the war”), and the aforementioned pun.

Key Elements:

  1. WW2 & D-Day: Historical context, victory commemoration.
  2. Bullet Casings/Metalworking: A tangible, albeit unusual, art medium.
  3. General’s Absurd Demand: The quintessential military leader pushing for impossible goals.
  4. Unexpected Outcome: The twist that flips failure into success (but in an absurd, suggestive way).
  5. The Pun: The crucial element delivering the punchline.

New Humorous Take:

Let’s lean into the “absurd military project” angle with a dash of historical trivia:

Did you know: During World War II, the US military explored the feasibility of using bats carrying tiny incendiary bombs to attack Japanese cities? The “Bat Bomb” project aimed to release millions of bats over Japan, each carrying a small explosive. The idea was that the bats would roost in wooden structures, setting them ablaze.

However, after accidentally setting a US airbase on fire during a test run, the project was deemed too dangerous. Much like our bullet-casing statue, it was a great idea on paper but became a logistical nightmare with unforeseen consequences.

The military decided to can the project, but the General was quoted as saying “I want a statue, using discarded military hardware, of these Bat-Bombs! And if the casings are too few, I expect the sculptor to get ahead”
