Joke Poo

Three drunk men are walking back home on a Thursday night.

Posted on June 17, 2025 by Joke Poo

(Originally a Jordanian joke)

Three drunk men are walking back home on a Thursday night. They get lost on their way and mistakenly take a wrong route. They enter a narrow alley and walk through it just to find themselves standing in front of a big wall blocking their way.

-“What do we do now?” the first guy asks.

-“I don’t know” the second replied.

-“Why don’t we just push the wall down the alley till we find an exit?” the third suggests.

-“What a great idea!” All of them agreed.

So each took off his shirt, threw it behind his back, flexed their muscles and started pushing against the wall with all their strength.

A few moments later an old man walks by and sees the three drunkards trying to push a solid wall that isn’t going anywhere. He laughs, steals the pile of shirts behind them and leaves.

After a long while of pushing, —exhausted, one of the men stops and takes a look behind his back. He immediately notices the pile of shirts are no where to be seen. Quickly he turns around to his buddies:

-“Hold on boys, hold on… we’re going too far”.

Joke Poo: The Programmers’ Push

Three sleep-deprived programmers are working on a critical software release on a Sunday night. They’re hopelessly lost in a maze of bugs, their code resembling a digital labyrinth. They’ve wandered into a particularly dense module, only to find their feature blocked by a massive, impenetrable firewall.

  • "What do we do now?" the junior programmer whines.

  • "I don’t know," the mid-level replies, burying his face in his hands.

  • "Why don’t we just brute-force it? Push the firewall out of the way until we find an exploit?" the senior programmer suggests, fueled by caffeine and desperation.

  • "What a terrible idea… But we’re out of time" All of them reluctantly agreed.

So each takes off their headphones, throws them behind, cracks their knuckles and starts hammering at the keyboard, writing lines of code, each trying to force their way through the firewall.

A few minutes later, a sysadmin strolls by and sees the three programmers frantically hacking at the firewall, a futile effort. He chuckles, silently deploys a patch that completely bypasses the firewall (addressing the root cause vulnerability), and leaves.

After what feels like an eternity of coding, sweating, and debugging, one of the programmers finally stops and looks behind him. He notices the stack of abandoned headphones are no longer there. He turns to his colleagues, looking horrified.

  • "Guys… guys… we’re making too much progress! Someone stole our headphones!"

Okay, here’s my analysis of the joke and some comedic enrichment:

Joke Analysis:

  • Core Idea: The humor stems from the combination of drunken logic, misplaced effort, and the ironic obliviousness of the men in the face of their stolen clothes.
  • Key Elements:
    • Drunkenness: Impairs judgment and problem-solving.
    • Misplaced Effort: Wasting energy on a futile task.
    • Loss of Belongings: Contributes to their vulnerability and ignorance.
    • Ironic Conclusion: They misinterpret the loss of their shirts as progress.
    • Theft: The random addition of theft makes the whole thing even more absurd and relatable.

Comedic Enrichment Ideas:

  1. New Joke (Playing on the "Going Too Far" Line):

A group of theoretical physicists are trying to push the observable universe outwards, hoping to create more space for new particles. After days of futile effort, one, noticing his hair has started to fall out from the exertion, shouts, "Guys, hold on! We’re expanding too fast!"

  2. Witty Observation:

This joke is a perfect example of how determination, when fueled by alcohol and devoid of common sense, can be the greatest thief of time and shirts.

  3. "Did You Know" (Enhancing the Absurdity):

Did you know that the average adult male can exert a pushing force roughly equivalent to the weight of a medium-sized dog? So, if these drunk men were somehow moving that wall, it would probably be at a speed comparable to a particularly lethargic snail. The thief probably made off with their shirts faster.

  4. Revised Joke Conclusion (Focusing on the Thief):

After a long while of pushing, one of the men stops and takes a look behind his back. He immediately notices the pile of shirts are nowhere to be seen. Quickly he turns around to his buddies:

"Guys," he slurs, "I think we scared off the wall!"

Meanwhile, the thief, wearing all three shirts at once, stumbles into a nearby bar and announces, "I’ve just single-handedly moved a wall!"

  5. Parody "Motivational" Poster:

Image: Three silhouettes pushing against a wall, with shirts discarded behind them.

Caption: "PERSISTENCE. Sometimes, the only thing you’re moving… is your stuff to a new owner."

These additions aim to enhance the original joke by either creating a similar situation with a different subject matter, emphasizing the absurdity through a witty observation, adding factual context that highlights the silliness, or rewriting the conclusion for a new punchline.
