Fake Poo

I was bored yesterday so….

Posted on June 22, 2025 by Joke Poo

I looked up the numbers to local Best Western Hotels.

I would call them and when they answered “Best Western”

I’d say….”True Grit with John Wayne” and hang up.

Joke Poo: Call of Duty

I was feeling mischievous last night so…

I looked up the numbers for local pizza delivery places.

I would call them, and when they answered “Pizza Palace, how can I help you?”,

I’d say… "I need backup at objective bravo, we’re taking heavy fire!" and then hang up.

Alright, let’s break down this joke and then inject some comedic juice.

Joke Dissection:

  • Setup: The narrator was bored and looking for something to do.
  • Punchline: The prank involves calling Best Western hotels and responding to their standard greeting ("Best Western") with "True Grit with John Wayne" before hanging up.
  • Humor Element: The humor lies in the absurdity of the non-sequitur. The response is completely unrelated to the expected interaction, creating confusion and hopefully, a bit of amusement for the hotel staff. It’s a low-stakes, harmless prank. It also taps into the nostalgia for classic westerns.

Key Elements:

  1. Boredom: The catalyst for the prank.
  2. Best Western: The specific target of the prank. A recognizable, standardized brand contributes to the humor.
  3. "True Grit with John Wayne": The nonsensical response. This is where the core of the joke resides. John Wayne and Westerns are a stereotypical and easily recognized film genre.

Comedic Enrichment:

Now, let’s use these elements to build something new:

Option 1: A "Did You Know?" Style Observation

"Did you know that Best Western hotels actually do have a connection to Westerns? In 1946, when they were founded, the original name was "Best Western Motels," and their initial marketing heavily relied on the burgeoning popularity of road trips fueled by the post-war economic boom and the romanticized image of the American West. So, the next time someone calls and says ‘True Grit with John Wayne,’ maybe the hotel staff should just offer them a complimentary room upgrade to the ‘The Duke’ suite… if they can find it amongst the pool, the continental breakfast area, and vending machines."

Option 2: A New Joke Based on the Concept

Why did the Best Western front desk clerk start taking acting classes?

Because after the tenth time he answered the phone with "Best Western," and got "The Godfather," he realized he needed to work on his improvisational skills. "I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse… a free continental breakfast!"

Explanation of Choices:

  • Option 1 plays off the factual tidbit of Best Western’s early marketing and ties it back to the joke. It uses the absurdity of the original prank to make a humorous observation about the reality of modern hotel amenities.
  • Option 2 follows the same pattern but extends the absurdity to other, equally famous films ("The Godfather"), suggesting that the prank caller may have a list and the Hotel employees may have to react in a similarly absurd manner. It provides a new scenario that builds upon the original joke’s premise.

Hopefully, these comedic enrichments add some extra laughs!
